HighFrequency
.

HighFrequency is a sound-art site-specific performance by URBANtells that includes recorded voices of Station North residents, music, and noises from the neighborhood. Using megaphones and FM receivers the artists interact with sound compositions broadcast by several FM transmitters and the ambient sounds from North Avenue traffic.

artists: Steve Bradley, Brian Garner & Joel Bowers

HighFrequency was located on the perimeter of the parking lot where 50 small FM radios tuned to a variety of local radio. The artists walked slowly in and around the ladders that operate as miniature transmission towers, eventually climbing up to the top of the ladders to rise above the cacophony of radio and ambient street sound, revealing the place through the amplified medley of the sound-art compositions. The artists used the physical acoustic location of the parking lot and the surrounding buildings as a physical resonance exploring the expressive qualities of the sonified site.

HighFrequency was produced for the Transmodern Festival, Baltimore, Maryland, 2008
